Reflections – A Retrospective on VoxO's First Five Years

Join Orlando's acclaimed vocal chamber ensemble, VoxO, for a special anniversary concert celebrating five years of exceptional music-making. Under the artistic direction of Claire Hodge, VoxO has become known for its expressive performances, close vocal artistry, and adventurous programming that spans Renaissance masterpieces, contemporary choral works, jazz-inspired selections, and original compositions by its own members. Founded in 2021 as the vocal ensemble of the Orlando Contemporary Chamber Orchestra (OCCO), VoxO brings together many of Central Florida's finest professional and semi-professional singers. This retrospective concert revisits memorable performances from the ensemble's first five seasons while celebrating the friendships, creativity, and musical excellence that have defined its journey.

October 4 – 2:00 p.m.

Orlando Concert Band

Enjoy an afternoon of outstanding music with the Orlando Concert Band, one of Central Florida's premier community wind ensembles. Founded in 1989, this accomplished 70-member ensemble brings together talented musicians from across the region to perform an exciting repertoire of symphonic band classics, patriotic favorites, Broadway selections, film music, marches, and contemporary works. Known for its musical excellence, spirited performances, and rich, vibrant sound, the Orlando Concert Band has entertained audiences throughout Central Florida for more than three decades with concerts that celebrate the versatility and enduring tradition of wind band music.

Choral Evensong

Experience the beauty and tranquility of Choral Evensong, one of the Anglican tradition's most treasured services of worship. Led by the Cathedral Choir, this contemplative service weaves together scripture, prayers, and magnificent choral music in a setting of reverence and peace. First compiled by Archbishop Thomas Cranmer for the 1549 Book of Common Prayer, Evensong draws on the ancient traditions of Vespers and Compline and continues to be sung in Anglican churches and cathedrals throughout the world. Whether you are a lifelong Anglican or attending for the first time, Choral Evensong offers a moving and uplifting musical and spiritual experience.

Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols

Experience one of the most beloved Christmas traditions in the English-speaking world at the Cathedral's Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. Originating at King's College Chapel in 1918 and now broadcast annually to millions around the globe, this treasured service tells the story of humanity's redemption—from the Garden of Eden to the birth of Christ—through nine scripture readings interwoven with glorious choral music and congregational carols. The Cathedral Choir and Choristers present a beautiful selection of familiar Christmas favorites alongside inspiring seasonal anthems, inviting all to experience the beauty, hope, and joy of the Christmas season in this timeless Anglican tradition.

December 24 – 10:30 p.m.

Prelude Music to Midnight Mass

Prepare for the celebration of Christmas with a beautiful program of sacred music before the Cathedral's Midnight Mass. The Cathedral Choir, joined by a string quartet, offers a rich selection of Advent and Christmas carols, seasonal anthems, and instrumental works that reflect the anticipation, mystery, and joy of Christ's birth. This beloved Christmas Eve tradition provides a peaceful and inspiring opportunity to step away from the busyness of the season and enter into the wonder of the Incarnation through music before the liturgy begins.

February 7 – 2:00 p.m.

David Briggs Organ Concert

Experience the artistry of one of the world's foremost concert organists as internationally acclaimed organist and composer David Briggs performs in recital. Renowned for his breathtaking virtuosity, expressive musicianship, and legendary gift for improvisation, Briggs has captivated audiences across Europe and North America for decades. A former Organ Scholar at King's College, Cambridge, and now Artist-in-Residence at the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine, he is celebrated for bringing the organ to life through masterful interpretations, dazzling improvisations, and imaginative transcriptions of orchestral masterpieces. Whether performing centuries-old classics or creating music spontaneously in the moment, David Briggs offers an unforgettable concert experience that showcases the full power, beauty, and versatility of the pipe organ.

March 26 – 7:00 p.m.

Tenebrae

Experience the profound beauty and solemnity of Tenebrae, one of the Church's most ancient and moving Holy Week liturgies. Meaning "darkness" or "shadows" in Latin, Tenebrae invites worshippers into the events of Christ's Passion through scripture, prayer, and hauntingly beautiful choral music. As the service unfolds, candles are gradually extinguished, symbolizing the growing darkness surrounding Christ's betrayal, crucifixion, and death, until the church is left in near darkness. Led by Claire Hodge and the Cathedral's Chamber Singers, this deeply reflective service features a rich collection of anthems that illuminate the sorrow, hope, and mystery at the heart of Good Friday, offering a powerful and unforgettable spiritual and musical experience.

April 25 – 6:00 p.m.

Choral Evensong

Discover the beauty and serenity of Choral Evensong, one of the Anglican tradition's most enduring treasures. Sung by the Cathedral Choir, this timeless service blends scripture, prayers, psalms, and glorious choral music into an atmosphere of reflection and peace. First compiled by Archbishop Thomas Cranmer for the 1549 Book of Common Prayer, Evensong draws upon the ancient monastic offices of Vespers and Compline and has been offered continuously in Anglican churches and cathedrals for nearly five centuries. Whether you come for the music, the history, or a moment of quiet contemplation, Choral Evensong offers a uniquely beautiful experience that nourishes both heart and soul.

May 16 – 2:00 p.m.
Dr. André Lash: Pentecost Organ Concert

Come celebrate the Day of Pentecost with us on May 16! Guest organist André Lash will present a recital of music specifically written to honor the coming of the Holy Spirit. You will hear works by Bach, Maurice Duruflé, Nicolas de Grigny, and contemporary composers, in addition to a bit of congregational singing.

Dr. Lash is an acclaimed concert organist, composer, and church musician whose distinguished career has spanned more than five decades. A graduate of the Eastman School of Music, Dr. Lash is internationally recognized for his expressive artistry, masterful interpretations of the great organ repertoire, and deep understanding of music for the Church.

Two Formats

The Cathedral’s annual concert season features two different formats -- Sunday Matinee Concerts and a Sacred Music Series. On Sundays at 2 p.m or Matinees will feature a wide variety of musicians  and musical styles from classical to modern, jazz, Broadway, folk, and patriotic. These incredibly talented artists come from Central Florida and beyond, even overseas. Our Sacred Music Series, however, features the Cathedral's own fine choirs and musicians, as they sing and lead beautiful worship in special services on Sunday evenings at 6 p.m., or for certain other occasions.

Always Park Free During Concerts!

For all music events, parking is free in the public lot on Washington at Magnolia. Also, downtown street meters are free all day on Sundays. Or park in the Regions Bank garage: Enter the up-ramp on Washington and receive an Entrance ticket. Please do not park in the spaces marked “Reserved” on Sundays. At the Cathedral, pickup an Exit ticket from an usher. Then using those two tickets, exit the garage free of charge.
