WE ARE SEEKING THE 15TH DEAN OF THE CATHEDRAL CHURCH OF ST. LUKE

WHO WE ARE

The Cathedral Church of St. Luke holds a unique place in the life of Orlando as both a historic parish and the seat of the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida. This site has been home to Episcopal worship in Central Florida for over 150 years, including the region’s first Episcopal gathering. While our current building is celebrating its 100th anniversary, the Cathedral has served in its diocesan role since 1902.

Today, the Cathedral functions as a regional church, drawing a diverse congregation from across the greater Orlando area. Our members include multi-generational families, long-time residents, young professionals, and newcomers to both the city and the church.

We are a congregation shaped by reverent worship, strong preaching, and a deep commitment to music and the arts. Many first encounter the Cathedral through its liturgy and music, but remain for the clarity of the Gospel and the stability of our shared life.

OUR NEXT DEAN IS …

The Cathedral Church of St. Luke prayerfully seeks a visionary 15th Dean who will shepherd the congregation and guide us into our next season of growth.

  • A Faithful Preacher and Teacher
Grounded in Holy Scripture and the Episcopal tradition, able to communicate the Gospel clearly and accessibly.

  • A Skilled Liturgical Leader
Comfortable leading complex and traditional liturgies, upholding the Cathedral’s high standards while guiding thoughtful and measured growth.

  • A Collaborative Leader
Able to work effectively with clergy, staff, lay leaders, and diocesan partners, fostering shared ownership of the Cathedral’s mission.

  • A Strategic and Visionary Leader
Equipped to lead with clarity, navigate change thoughtfully, and build toward long-term growth and sustainability.

  • A Steward of the Cathedral’s Role
Capable of engaging both the Diocese and the wider community, representing the Cathedral in civic and ecclesial settings.

Our mission

Experience, Embody, and Extend the Love of God in Jesus Christ.

Experience
Through reverent worship, thoughtful preaching, traditional formation, and a strong musical tradition, we proclaim Christ to both the churched and unchurched.

Embody
Our life together is sustained through active lay ministries, Christian education, pastoral care, and a commitment to living our faith in daily life.

Extend
We engage our community and the wider world through outreach, partnerships, and long-standing global mission relationships.

Life Together at the Cathedral

The Cathedral offers a wide range of ways for people to connect and participate beyond Sunday worship. More than 20 active lay ministries support the life of the church, including education, outreach, pastoral care, and fellowship.

Regular opportunities such as Bible studies, the Sunday Dean’s Hour, ministry groups, and Wednesday evening dinner and classes provide consistent points of connection. These smaller settings are where many members build relationships and become more deeply engaged in the life of the Cathedral.

Intentional ministries for children and youth provide spaces for younger members to belong, build relationships, and grow in faith, while also inviting them into meaningful participation in the life of the church.

Pastoral care is shared across the congregation through established ministries that support members in times of need and help maintain a strong sense of community.

WORSHIP & SPIRITUAL IDENTITY

Worship at the Cathedral is grounded in the Book of Common Prayer and shaped by the richness of the Anglican tradition. Our liturgical life includes both Rite I and Rite II Eucharists, with a range of expression from spoken services to fully choral liturgies with organ, incense, and chant.

We are a congregation committed to theological depth, scriptural authority, and the historic teaching of the Church, expressed through worship that is both reverent and accessible.

ORLANDO, FLORIDA

The Cathedral is located in the heart of Orlando, a rapidly growing and increasingly diverse city. While widely known as a global destination, Orlando is also home to expanding urban neighborhoods, a vibrant arts community, and a wide range of economic realities.

As a downtown cathedral, we are uniquely positioned to serve both residents and visitors, and to play a visible role in civic, diocesan, and community life.

We invite your prayers for this season of discernment and for all those considering a call to serve at the Cathedral Church of St. Luke.
